The rail link between Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Borders will cost more than double the original estimate and will open years behind schedule. A deal to begin construction on the thirty-one mile route was signed today, but the first trains are unlikely to run on the track until 2015. In other news: Appeal court judges are considering a dramatic change to the way rape cases are prosecuted in Scotland. They're being asked to allow juries to be told if a victim has previously made false accusations of rape. Women's groups say the move would make prosecutions harder, but human rights activists say the system could benefit. Spectators at an organised fireworks show in Edinburgh were forced to run for cover last night, after a stray rocket sent the entire display shooting into the crowd. An eight year-old girl suffered a minor burn to her face. Organisers at the event in Oxgangs have apologised. Scots teachers are to be encouraged to undertake more study. Three million pounds is being made available to help support teachers earn masters degrees. The initiative replaces the Chartered Teaching Scheme which was controversially dropped. Unions say if teachers work for more qualifications they should receive additional money. And in sports: Celtic have been hit with an injury crisis ahead of the club's Champions league match against Barcelona tomorrow night.
